10.19.04 - Here's a cute little account of how our favorite Swedish couple found out about Lasse's Oscar nominations for The Cider House Rules:

Lasse Hallstrom was home in Bedford, N.Y., in bed with his wife, actress Lena Olin, on the morning of Feb. 15, watching TV. When Dustin Hoffman announced Hallstrom's Oscar nomination for best director of 1999, for The Cider House Rules, Hallstrom turned to Olin, and Olin turned to Hallstrom. They shared the same reaction -- utter disbelief.

Then the phone began to ring.

And ring.

''There had been no speculation about the Swede being one of the five,'' says the obviously tickled Hallstrom, a native of Stockholm. ''We were always mentioned as just outside the top five for best picture, but I hadn't seen my name at all. I was absolutely certain I wouldn't be nominated.''

To go along with this cute story, here are some High Res pics from the ever generous Jinnie of Lena and Lasse at that year's Oscar luncheon and party. (They look so happy and proud) one; two; three; four; five and six;

And here too are a few choice Emmy pics: one; two; three;

09.09.04 - Forgot to add this comment from the photographer, Raul Vega, who took the great cover shot:

Earlier in the day Lena played a tragic scene, but she really got into our session. I was impressed with her spirit. She's a real trouper.

I re-scanned the American Film cover, as well as scanning the Lena portions of the very long article inside. Here's part one & part two, & also this wonderful Masha description from the book. Hope y'all can see the text okay - I tried to scan it as big as I could. :-)

The wonderful sammy delivers yet another Swedish article, which included this lovely pic. Huge thanks to sammy for translating the pertinent parts:

Movie news:
Will be done in November with "Casanova" - after that no more movies scheduled before she'll work with Staho. Rumours about her filming with Geoffrey Rush in "The piano tuner of earthquakes", is just that - a rumour. "it's a script I received a long time ago, but through the papers I have heard this rumour starting so perhaps I need to make some calls and see what's up with that…"

Regarding Alias
"I am really about to quit but it is almost difficult now. I play with the thought all the time about coming back and do some more episodes. Not this year, but perhaps later, she says."

There's more translations in the Forum!

09.01.04 - ETA #2: I'm in heaven, sheer heaven y'all! ThankYouThankYouThankYou to generous Jinnie for these exclusive To Die For high res photos from Lena's recent photoshoot!! OMG! *swoonthud*

ETA: sammy just continues to treat us with more articles and tidbits from Lena's recent media blitz in Sweden. Check out the Forum for even more goodies, including that Alias teaser from Lena herself.
On the question if she will return to "Alias" - "it's not impossible. When my agent negotiated with them they never really decided that I was going to quit so they haven't written me out of the plot yet, so you never know."
Hmmmmm...

Enormous thanks to sammy for the great translation of Svenska Dagbladet article! Not that Lena "owed" anyone an explantion about Alias but maybe now people will finally get it through their heads that it was never about money.
Great interview (three cellphones! hee!). Thanks again, sammy!
